April 2023 Diary

As a passionate teenager who lives and breathes horses, nothing gets my heart racing quite like the start of the show season. The start of this year has been great, with winning the Junior/Amateur 1.0m Championship at my first show jumping event to the glamorous world of the Spruce Meadows Hoofbeats and High Fashion Equestrian fashion show. Read on to hear all about it!

Conquering the Show Jumping Arena:

The anticipation and nerves before the season's first show were something I struggled with, but I channelled my excitement into laser focus. Opal and I made our way around our first four rounds, leaving our mark on the course. The course, however, would conquer us as we had refusals on the weekend's final rounds. I left the arena feeling defeated. Mom kept telling me Opal needed more cool-out time as we cooled out and wouldn't let me head back to the barn. Her sneaky tactic had me taken by surprise when they called the winners. The cheers from the crowd ( Okay, we all know it was my favourite, Tina, that was cheering the loudest for me and making me feel like a rock star) and the feeling of accomplishment that washed over me when I secured the Junior/Amateur 1.0m Championship was indescribable. It was a moment confirming that consistency pays off!

I also had the pleasure of sponsoring a division by providing membership to the Love Dolls Equestrian Society to the winner of the .60 M Division! I am so excited to influence the equestrians in my community positively!

A Stride into High Fashion:

Transitioning from the thrilling world of show jumping to the glamorous catwalk of the Spruce Meadows Hoofbeats and High Fashion Equestrian fashion show was a whirlwind experience like no other. As a teenager with a passion for style and a love for horses, being a part of this event was so much fun!

I had outfits from Harcour, East, Equiline, R.J Classics and Arista. The best part of the fashion show was celebrating my 16th birthday at Spruce! It was a great way to start my year!

These moments make me more resilient, confident, and well-rounded. I am grateful for the support of my family and barn friends, especially Coach Tara. These opportunities have allowed me to fuse my passions in ways I could have only dreamed of. The show season has just begun, and I eagerly anticipate the new adventures that await me, both in the arena and on the runway.
