My grandparents had a mixed grain and cattle farm when I was little. I loved being there with them. I would ride in the grain truck with grandpa to the elevator, with a load of whatever had come off the field. As we would pull into the elevator he would ask me what I wanted from the store. We would pass the time pretending we were window shopping while the truck unloaded. I never got tired of those hot and dusty trips!
When it came time to check the cows over on “35” he would ask what I, or anyone traveling in the truck with him, wanted from A&W. Hopefully one was aware of Grandpa’s games, otherwise you might be extremely disappointed when the truck pulled up next to a bush along the fenceline, grandpa rolled down his window and continued to place your order! Grandpa and Grandma worked hard on the farm. It was a way of life for them and one that I am thankful to have many family and friends involved in today. I am especially appreciative to the one’s who let me have my annual ride in the combine or pick me up during calving to check the cows with them!
One of those people is my young friend Brant. Brant amazes me with his love for cattle. Talking to him you would think there was an old rancher hiding inside somewhere. He has a passion for his animals and I was very grateful to him for allowing me to come and visit him and his beautiful bull one day earlier this winter.
It is all the farmers like Brant and his family that work so hard so that we can have the plentiful amounts of delicious food to put on our tables everyday. Today let’s share our Agriculture stories and thank the hard working farmers all across Canada for their contribution to our diverse country.
I hope you have a fabulous day celebrating Canada’s Agriculture Day!
