Why I Want Your Horse to Misbehave During Your Equine Portrait Session
You probably are thinking, I know nothing about horses when reading I want your horse to misbehave but let me explain what I mean by saying that. I do not support bad or dangerous behavior during a session. I do support your horse having the freedom to express him/herself while we spend time together for your equine portrait session.
As horse owners, we know that our horses have individual personalities just like people. I know that when I have photos taken of my ponies, I want to see that, not a picture that looks like I gave them a dose of Chill meant to calm a dragon.
Helping Your Horse to Show Their Personality
Allowing your horse space and freedom to move while not stressing over having them stand perfectly still is necessary. Constantly picking at your horse to hold its head in one place or to stand perfectly still is unrealistic. Allowing them the time to take a few moments before re-setting and trying again is a must.
I don’t want your horse to walk all over you because it stood in a stall for 4 hours and never had a chance to get some exercise. I just want them to have the space to move and to be themselves. That means when they fidget, try to eat grass, turn around, pop a hip, or have ideas other than what we want them to do, let’s just give them a moment to reset.
If you get after your horse for eating grass every 10 seconds, chances are it will start to pick up on the energy you are putting out there. Instead, let’s work with the way your horse is feeling to get you the pictures you will love to share for years to come.
So if you like photos of your horse being themself…even if that means they are goofballs.
I’m your photographer!
Hey…have you met my boys? I’ve got all the patience in the world after raising those two! I’m also an experienced horse owner and I understand horse behaviour.
