My favorite place to be when I was growing up was my grandparents farm. Sometimes it felt more like home than my parents place. I loved it there, so much that I am sure my constant whining and bawling to stay after a visit was enough to make my mother question having me!
As life so happens, the time came for my grandparents to leave the farm and my youngest Uncle took over. After a few years of farming there, his life changed and moved him north to where he and his beautiful wife now live. It is not very often that I get to head up to see them, but when I do, I always feel like I never left. Their hospitality knows no bounds and Uncle Rick gives the best cooks out there a run for their money.
To surmise that this is where I get my “Old MacDonald’s Farm” traits might be a little more than speculation. I could spend hours with the all the critters at their place…and it isn’t unusual for one to make it into the vehicle for the ride home. In fact there was a time not so long ago that King Louie and Beth made the trip, making Vermilion their new home.
Rick and Mernie are kindred spirits and the fact that I got to spend a rainy day on the farm celebrating their wedding made my year. Some people may wish for sunshine on their wedding day but the fact that it rained for these two was a farmers delight. I wish them many more rainy days, spent together drinking hot coffee and tending to their critters!
