Get Prepared for your Central Alberta Spring Equine Photos
The warmer weather we have had, has me thinking about spring! I don’t know about you, but I am ready! If you haven’t booked your spring equine photo session here in Alberta in the spring before, let me assure you that this is a great year to try it!
There are so many amazing places to scout out that only look great in the spring so that you will get a completely different look than any other time of the year. Here are some tips for your springtime equine photos.
When Should You Book Your Spring Session?
Spring officially starts March 20th, and you really can’t go wrong with lovely spring pictures. The blossoms on the trees and even the pussy willows can add a beautiful element to your photos. Just remember that if you want to book sunset photos, the earlier in the spring that you book, the earlier in the evening the sun will set.
Booking in Mid to Late spring will bring wildflowers and peonies into bloom.
What to Wear for Spring Photos
Choosing your outfit for your photos is probably one of the hardest decisions to make. Picking outfits that will look good with spring colours is something I can help you with.
If you follow the Matchy Match posts on socials, I have gone ahead and pulled the spring colours from three of the equestrian apparel companies Equestrian Stockholm, PS of Sweden and Kentucky Horsewear.
As you can see, mixing pastels with bolder colours looks great. Don’t be scared to try different combinations that you might not normally try.
How Can I Keep the Session Stress-Free?
There are a few things that will help you with this! The first is to book your date early. You want to leave yourself plenty of time to figure out what you will wear or where you want to take your pictures. From past experience I can pass on to you that last minute bookings seem much more stressful for clients. I can help you by offering suggestions on your wardrobe if we have plenty of time to send messages back and forth.
Going with the flow is another way I can suggest to make your session stress-free. Allow your horse to be a horse. You can’t expect him/her to be good and calm all the time. In fact, I wrote a post about Why your photographer is okay if your horse misbehaves during your session. Horses can feel their owner’s stress levels, and that can cause them not to be themselves. Do your best to relax on the day of your session. Don’t worry-I’ve got you!
Treat your photo session like a date with your horse!
Pamper you and your horse before your photo session, just like you would a date night. Leave all the hard parts of the day to your photographer (that’s me!).
My last tip for your spring session is to get to the location a little bit early. You will feel prepared and relaxed if you are ahead of schedule! Sometimes to take in the surroundings is also beneficial if you feel your horse will need it. Give yourself more time than you think is necessary to get ready. Trust me on this!
